It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Margaret Fossen on August 29, 2026.
Karen arrived on this earth August 31, 1970, in Galahad, AB, to the proud parents of Keith and Eva Fossen and big sister Eva Lynn.
She had the happiest young life filled with horses, outdoors and especially her summers at the cabin on the Shuswap.
Lake life meant endless hours on and in the water – the girl’s theory was if it floats, it can probably be skied on and they put this to test almost every day, thanks to the most patient boat-driving dad in the world!
Karen’s lake time was filled with water, sand, sun and friendships that lasted her life-time.
She graduated from Forestburg High School where she excelled in Basketball, Volleyball, Track and Field, and any other sport that she tried.
She went on to complete her Professional Cooking Diploma from SAIT in Calgary, AB, where she received a scholarship to play basketball for her first year.
Upon graduation, Karen followed her other passion of travel and thus began her overseas adventures. Her first big trip was to Australia and Fiji with a good friend from SAIT. The two of them had an incredible year touring Australia and she got to celebrate Christmas with her family in the Australian heat.
In order to continue her world travels, she began cooking in remote Oilfield camps during the winters. She would then plan her next big adventure and keep all of us posted with entertaining postcards!
These postcards had to be supported with the pre-arranged weekly phone calls that her parents insisted upon. These incredible trips continued until she was married and had her beautiful baby girl, Jasmin. Jasmin and Karen then took on the world together with trips, sports, horses, lake time and most importantly family time.
Karen used her cooking skills to start her own catering and food truck business. She was as passionate and conscientious about her business as she was about being a mother. Her customers never doubted if she would be there and if her food would be amazing.
Karen decided to start a new chapter and made the move to Kelowna in 2022. Karen then began cooking at a long-term care facility and loved dealing with the resi- dents and they all loved her.
Karen will be deeply missed by her daughter Jasmin (Wyatt), cherished grandsons Jeffrey and Blaine, Mother Eva, sister Eva Lynn (Richard) and all of her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved father Keith.
May she rest in peace. A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday September 12, 2026, at the Forestburg Community Hall. A time of fellowship and refreshments immediately follow the service.
