The Town of Viking has announced that Chief Administrative Officer Doug Lefsrud has submitted a letter of resignation to the mayor and council.
The letter was received and accepted on Thursday, July 13, states the press release provided by the Town of Viking.
Lefsrud plans to leave his position as of Aug. 31. But he took the time to commend the community for which he worked.
“After many years of serving the Town of Viking, I have made the decision to retire from my position as Chief Administrative Officer effective Aug. 31, 2026,” said Lefsrud in a statement to the public.
“Serving this community has been one of the greatest privileges of my life” he continued.
“Over the years, I have had the honour of serving as a Town Councillor, Recreation Director, and most recently as CAO. Each role has provided me with the opportunity to work alongside dedicated Council members, staff, volunteers, businesses, and residents who care deeply about our community.
“I am grateful for the support, trust, friendships, and memories that I have gained throughout my time with the town,” he said. “Together, we have celebrated many successes and faced challenges with determination and resilience.
“Viking has always been my home and will continue to be my home. I am proud to have been part of the community’s growth and development and look forward to watching its continued success in the years ahead.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career and provided me with the opportunity to serve this remarkable community,” Lefsrud concluded.
“It’s always been my opportunity to give back to the community and make it more successful,” he added, in a later interview. “And it was a chance to get the message out that Viking has so much to offer.
“I’m going to miss interacting with the people and being available to support and help in whatever capacity I could,” he added. “This is an amazing community, and we have an amazing team here.”
Lefsrud was given a tribute from the town following his retirement announcement.
“On behalf of mayor and council, the town extends its sincere appreciation to Doug for his dedicated service to the community over the past four years,” stated the announcement.
“Throughout his tenure, he has provided steady leadership and worked collaboratively with council, staff, and the community to advance the town’s priorities,” stated the statement from Mayor Paul King and council.
“We would like to thank Doug for his commitment and contributions to the Town of Viking.
“We appreciate his years of service and wish him all the best as he begins this new chapter in retirement.
“We thank him for his dedication to our continued success in all his future endeavours.”
The process of recruiting a new chief administrative officer now begins.
