On May 8, 2026, at 5:32 a.m., Strathcona County RCMP was called to an apartment building in Sherwood Park for a report of an injured male who was in the hallway.
Officers arrived and located a male who had been stabbed. Despite life saving measure by EMS, the male was declared deceased at the scene.
A suspect was identified, who resided in the same apartment complex. RCMP contained the area and approximately five hours later, the male suspect was arrested. RCMP Major Crimes has taken carriage of the investigation.
Christopher Boyd O’Chiese (31), a resident of Sherwood Park, has been charged with the second-degree murder of Darren James Currat (36), also a Sherwood Park resident.
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, O’Chiese has been remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on May 11, 2026.
