Carol Irene Rurka

With heavy hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Carol Irene Rurka on April 22, 2026, at the age of 82 years in Camrose, Alberta.

Carol was born and raised in Holden, Alberta, and later built a life rooted in love, family, and community in Tofield alongside her husband, Leo, who predeceased her in 2009. Together, they farmed and raised their family, creating a life grounded in hard work, dedication, and a deep appreciation for time spent with others.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her children, Dean and Shannon, who were the constant recipients of her unwavering love and support. She found great joy in time spent with each of them—cherishing meaningful conversations and simple moments. She especially treasured her visits with Dean in Germany and looked forward to another trip this June. With Shannon, she valued the many hours spent together watching the kids grow, sharing vacations, and even enjoying a quiet Sunday drive.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashley (Aidan), Jordan (Dylan), Ethan, and Owen. Her grandchildren were truly her world, and she took great pride in being part of their lives—attending events, supporting their passions, and creating lasting memories.

Carol is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Marlene (Noel), Dennis (Linda), and Linda (Tom); her sisters-in-law Vicki and Violet; Uncle Norris (Elaine); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She deeply valued time with family—whether through shared vacations, afternoons of cards and games, or time spent at the arena watching her brother compete in penning. She rarely missed a birthday, holiday, or gathering, always prioritizing time with those she loved.

Carol had a lifelong passion for teaching and learning. She began her career in Ryley, later taught in Tofield, and spent many years in Chipman. She found joy in reconnecting with former students and built meaningful relationships with families along the way. Her impact extended far beyond the classroom and lives on in the many lives she touched.

She also loved to travel and explore, and at home enjoyed socializing, playing cards, and following sports—especially curling and baseball.

Carol will be remembered for her unwavering love, thoughtful nature, and the way she made others feel cared for. She treasured simple routines—morning phone calls, thoughtful
messages, and daily check-ins. Her strong faith in God was a quiet but steady presence in her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 13, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at The House Ministries, 5830 51 St., Tofield.
