It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Sherwood, affectionately known to family and friends as “Hughie.”
Hugh was born on March 29, 1946, in Killam, Alberta, one of six children raised by his parents, Fred and Peggy Sherwood. He grew up in a hardworking family where his father was a farmer, butcher, and entrepreneur, and his mother was a devoted teacher. The values of hard work, resilience, and caring for others stayed with him throughout his life.
Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Peggy, his brother John, and his sister Bunny. He is survived by his loving daughter Denise, his son Michael, his sister Jule, and his brothers Doug and Gary-Dean, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
To those who knew him, Hugh was a provider, a straight shooter, and a man who cared deeply about the people in his life. He was practical, hardworking, fun-loving, and never one to mince words. Above all else, his greatest pride and joy were his children, Denise and Michael.
Hugh enjoyed the simple things in life: sharing a cold beer with friends, heading to “church” at the casino, and telling stories. He was a legendary storyteller who could hold a room captive with a tale, stir the pot better than anyone, and leave people laughing with his quick wit and mischievous sense of humor. Making people smile brought him genuine joy.
His presence was larger than life, and his generosity, loyalty, and sense of humor will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The lessons he taught, the standards he lived by, and the memories he created will remain forever.
Hugh will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will continue to echo in the memories of those who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Dad, thank you for your love, your guidance, your unwavering support. We will miss you every day, and we will carry you with us always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Army and Navy in Vernon on Saturday October 24th, between the hours of 1pm and 4pm.
