It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theodore Olav Djos of Sedgewick, Alberta, on August 11, 2026, at the age of 87.
Ted was the first child of Nels and Minnie (Severson) Djos of Sedgewick. On February 3, 1961, he married the love of his life, Joan Elizabeth Patten of Sedgewick. Together, they built a life centered around family, community, hard work, and helping others.
Their family grew to include five children: Karen, Catherine, Dorothy, and twin sons Theodore and Robert. Ted was a lifetime truck driver, a pipeliner and owned and operated a Corral Cleaning business for over 35 years. He and Joan developed a life- time of friendships with their customers during that time.
Ted and Joan believed strongly in volunteering and giving back to their community. That value has continued through their children and grandchildren. Ted was especially proud of his many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Sedgewick Volunteer Fire Department, beginning in 1967. Serving his community was something he did with great dedication and pride.
Ted had a deep love of farming, machinery, woodworking, and the simple pleasures of working with his hands. Every fall, he looked forward to the old-time threshing, helping prepare the equipment and enjoying the memories it brought back from his early days working on threshing crews. This past spring, he spent countless hours on the tractor preparing the soil for the crop that will be harvested this fall.
His tinker shop was another special place for Ted. He spent countless hours there with his woodworking tools, creating thoughtful and useful treasures for his children and grandchildren.
Last winter, in what would become his final big project, Ted made more than 20 cutting boards as Christmas gifts for his family. Each one was made with love and care, just as he had spent his life caring for those around him. There was never a day that went by without Ted helping someone. He was a man who could be counted on, and his generosity, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand touched many lives. His family will forever remember his steady presence, his hardworking nature, and the love he showed through all that he did.
Ted is survived by his daughter Karen (Don) Snethun and their children: Curtis (Becky), daughters Ray-Lynn and Kacee; Nicole (Simon) Donatti, sons Maddox and Bronson; and Cody (Leah), sons Tyler and C.J. His daughter Cathy (Stewart) Crone and their children: Jessica (Blair) Fenton, daughters Gray, Tayva, and Laney; Jackie (Ryan) Davidsons, sons Reeves and Wells; and Becky (Scott) Guenthner sons Quade, Ridge and Tyce. His daughter Dorothy (Layne) Bloudoff and their children Brittany (Mark) and Colton (Alysse). His son Ted (Jodie) and their children Ted and Bailey. His sons Rob (Tennille) and their children Owen and Ty. Ted is also survived by his brother Edward (Linda) and family; sister Mary Ann Lewis and family; brother Dale (Reva) and family; sisters-inlaw Geneva Patten and Mavis Patten; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, ex- tended family mem- bers, and dear friends.
Ted was prede- ceased by his beloved wife, Joan; his parents, Minnie and Nels; Joan’s parents, Robert and Mar Patten; his brother-in-law Bill Lewis, and Joan’s siblings Roy, Wilfred, Mary, Margaret, Christina, Jean, John, Ted Lawson, Isabel, Dorothy and Doug. He was also prede- ceased by numerous brothers and sisters-inlaw, extended family members, and good friends. Ted leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, service, hard work, and generosity. The love he gave so freely will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest easy, Dad. Your work here is done. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Sedgewick Community Hall. A time of Fellowship and refreshments will immediately follow the service.
