Marcella (Pfeffer) Schulte, our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother is now our Angel. Marcella passed away peacefully July 11, 2026. Marcella was born in Strome, AB on February 17, 1926, to John and Cecilia (Zimmel) Pfeffer.
Leonard and Marcella grew up just a few miles apart, both attending the St. Peter’s church and were married there on December 27th, 1955.
They took over the Schulte farmstead south of Strome in 1957, and started raising their family of eight: Glen, Lorn, Merl, Iva, Ann, Lyn, Leon, and Fay.
Marcella was an active community member, belonging to the St. Peter’s C.W.L, Heisler Royal Purple, a 4-H leader, Strome Seniors’ Citizen, and her biggest achievement was her many years of teaching.
Marcella’s teaching career began in a one room schoolhouse and ended in 1990, retiring from the Strome School. Mrs. Schulte (Miss Pfeffer) touched many young students’ lives over her decades as a dedicated educator.
Marcella enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing the piano (self-taught) and a good game of cards. Every time someone came for a visit Mom was up for a card game, with a lunch of homemade sausage to follow.
Marcella was also an amazing cook and baker. She often talked about baking a cake everyday, and many a pie went to the sports day in Heisler. Most precious to Mom was her large family. Along with her eight children and their spouses she had 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Grandma showed her love through her many talents, and each grandchild has numerous items that were made with love and care. Hard work was a big part of Mom’s day, but with this came time for family. She taught us to be grateful for all we have.
Marcella achieved her final goal on February 17th when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Left to cherish her memory: Glen of Strome, AB; Lorn (Patty) of Strome, AB; Merl (Elaine) of Delisle, SK; Iva (Albert) Etheridge of Pigeon Lake, AB; Ann (Barry) Oviatt of Feudal, SK; Lyn of Leduc; Leon (Tammy) of Conroe, TX; and Fay (Dan) Fos- sen of Forestburg, AB. Her 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and her many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed.
Marcella was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Leonard; grandson Eric Schulte; parents John and Cecilia; sisters Matilda, Irene, Evelyn; and brothers Darrel and Donald.
Mass of Christian Burial for Marcella will take place August 13, 2026 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church south of Strome. Inurnment will follow the service at the St. Peter’s Cemetery and everyone attending is invited back to the Strome Community Hall for a time of fellowship and refreshments after the service at St. Peter’s.
Donations in memory of Marcella may be made to the St. Peter’s Restoration Fund.
She knocked and they answered, may her eternal light shine bright upon us as she is laid to rest. Go rest and know that we love you and will miss you every single day.
