Lydia Hanson

Lydia Hanson passed away suddenly at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton on March 26, 2026 at the age of 92.

She will be dearly missed and remembered by her daughters Lori Schill (Bob) and Debbie Hanson (Ken), as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Russell Hanson and son Brent Hanson, her father and mother Gerhard and Maria Hanson, sisters Kay Thielman, Freida Thielman, Marie Stakaruk, and brother George Thielman.

Lydia was a huge contributor to the Viking community. She was involved in the Maple Lodge community, the UCW, the New to You, and Viking Royal Purple. Many knew her as the Town Administrator for a number of years.

A Funeral Service was held March 31, 2026 at 1 p.m. at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Viking, Alberta with Pastor Chris Koch officiating. An inurnment followed at the Viking Cemetery. Lunch then followed at the Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Viking Health Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
