On Dec. 14, 2025, at 3:10 A.M., Fort Saskatchewan RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspicious pick-up truck leaving a rural property in Sturgeon County.
The pick-up truck fled from police but was acquired shortly where RCMP were able to disable the vehicle by using a cover tire deflation device. The suspect male identified as Sonny Giant was arrested and taken into custody. Police located several stolen credit cards and identification on Giant incidental to arrest.
A search warrant was granted and conducted on Giant’s vehicle. Police located several stolen items inside the vehicle belonging to the home owners of the residence where Giant was originally observed leaving.
Sonny Giant (44), a resident of Fort McMurray, Alta; was charged with the following offences:
- Flight from peace officer;
- Theft of credit card;
- Possession of property obtained by crime less than or equal to $5000;
- Illegal possession of trafficking in Government documents.
Giant was brought before a Justice of the Peace and released from custody, his next court appearance at the Alberta Court of Justice Fort Saskatchewan is on Jan. 15, 2026.
As this matter is now before the court, no further updates are anticipated.
