On March 18, 2026, at approximately 11:43 P.M., Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were conducting pro-active patrols and located a dirt bike driving with no lights on in the area of 84 street and highway 21 in Fort Saskatchewan. RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the dirt bike, however the driver accelerated and failed to stop for police.
No pursuit was initiated due to public safety. Fort Saskatchewan RCMP members were able to locate the same dirt bike shortly after in the area of highway 37 and highway 15 in Sturgeon County. RCMP followed the dirt bike from a distance to a residence in Sturgeon County, and after a brief altercation the sole occupant male rider was arrested.
Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have charged, 46-year-old, Gerald Kirkey a resident of Sturgeon County with:
- Flight from peace officer X 2
- Assault on police officer
- Operation while impaired (alcohol) of motor vehicle,
- Operation while over 80mg % (alcohol) of motor vehicle
- Resist police officer
- Display improperly issued license plate on motor vehicle
- Operate motor vehicle of unauthorized class
- Fail to obey stop sign before entering intersection
- Operate motor vehicle without subsisting registration
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle on highway
- Drive OHV in public place without at least one tail lamp mounted on rear
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Kirkey was released from custody and will appear before The Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan on April 9, 2026.
As this matter is now before the court, no further updates are anticipated.
