High winds cause severe damage to Bruderheim townhouse roof

By Melissa MacIntosh-Young, Staff Reporter

Residents in Bruderheim are cleaning up after powerful winds caused significant damage to the roof of a local townhouse complex.

The strong gusts tore sections of roofing material from the building, leaving parts of the structure exposed and debris scattered around the property.

Pieces of shingles and roofing material were reportedly blown across nearby yards and streets as the windstorm moved through the community.

Resident, Lizzy McDonald’s roof was severely damaged by the high winds. When asked for a comment she replied, “It was very scary. Thankfully my kids were not at home. The landlord came by and said that an insurance inspector is coming tomorrow. Everyone is still able to remain in their homes and thankfully no one was hurt.”

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but residents say the damage was sudden and alarming as the winds intensified. Property owners and maintenance crews are now assessing the extent of the damage and working to secure the roof to prevent further issues.

Environment Canada had issued a wind warning for the Bruderheim area calling for strong northwest winds with gusts between 90-110Km/hr on Sunday.
