Debit fraud totals nearly $3,000, says Viking RCMP

On March 2, police conducted traffic patrols and issued two warnings and one violation ticket for various traffic offences. Police also received a report of a motor vehicle collision involving wildlife. No injuries were incurred and a collision report was completed.

Also on this date, police learned a resident of Viking failed to attend Provincial court in Vegreville as required. A warrant for arrest was issued for Blair Garrett and an additional charge of Failing to Attend Court has been laid.

On March 3 more traffic patrols were conducted, and police issued pme warning to a motorist.

On March 4, police received a complaint of the fraudulent use of a debit card. The complainant advised she lost her debit card and then within a couple of days, there were numerous transactions using the card totalling almost $3,000. The card was cancelled and her bank was advised. Police are continuing the investigation into this matter.

That night, police received a complaint of an unknown person trespassing at a business west of Viking. The complainant called back a short time later and advised police could disregard the call as the person in question turned out to be an employee of the business.

On March 5, police were advised of a collision that had occurred a day prior involving a large load being transported that struck a power line, causing the live line to snap and land on private property. This matter is still under investigation.

Later that morning, police received a complaint of a possible assault that had occurred at the school earlier in the week. Police attended the school and it was determined no assault had occurred and follow up is being conducted with the kids involved in the altercation.

On March 6, police received a couple of complaints regarding an erratic driver eastbound on Highway 26. Both complainants advised the vehicle in question was failing to maintain its driving lane and had almost caused several collisions. Patrols were made and the vehicle in question was located and a traffic stop was initiated.

A roadside breath demand was issued and the driver provided breath samples which produced a result of “0” indicating the driver had not consumed any alcohol. The driver was issued two violation tickets for driving carelessly and failing to provide required information to a peace officer.

An officer from Wainwright was also on scene and followed the vehicle back to Wainwright to monitor…
